Amori et Dolori Sacrum - Consecrated to love and pain
There's a villa in Capri that's hidden. It's not on the main road, it can't be seen from the sea, and you won't find it on postcards. It can only be reached on foot, climbing toward Monte Tiberio along quiet alleys scented with Mediterranean scrub. And when it finally appears - white, solitary, overlooking the Gulf of Naples - you immediately understand that someone built it not to be admired, but to isolate themselves from the world.
Villa Lysis was built in 1904 by Count Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen, an extremely wealthy and eccentric Parisian nobleman, who chose Capri as a place of voluntary exile after a scandal that had overtaken his life in France. He lived here for twenty years, writing poetry, loving freely, and spending his last days in the "Chinese Room" decorated with oriental mosaics. On the architrave of the entrance, he had the words that sum up his entire life engraved: Amori et Dolori Sacrum - Consecrated to love and pain.

Perché visitarla?
Perché è uno di quei luoghi che raccontano storie che i musei normali non sanno raccontare. L'architettura è un collage volutamente eccentrico - stile Art Nouveau, colonne ioniche greche, dorature della Secessione viennese, maioliche azzurre, decorazioni orientali - che rispecchia perfettamente l'animo del suo creatore: colto, inquieto, e incapace di scegliere una sola identità. Il panorama dalla terrazza su Marina Grande è tra i più silenziosi e poetici dell'isola. E il giardino, con il suo tempietto neoclassico immerso nel verde, è uno dei posti più fotogenici di Capri.

Combinatela con Villa Jovis, distante solo qualche minuto a piedi lungo un sentiero naturalistico. Le due ville si completano a meraviglia: Villa Jovis racconta il potere di un imperatore, Villa Lysis la fragilità di un uomo. Insieme, valgono una mattinata intera.
